Silicones

Silicones

Silicone and rubber materials can be used in many different types of mold making projects, thanks to their soft, yet durable, construction. Here's a look at two of the most commonly used varieties.

Tin Cure

Tin cure silicones, also called condensation-cure or high-tear silicone mold rubbers, are often dubbed the "workhorse" of silicones. These materials are affordable and perform well in a variety of applications, like casting wax, gypsum, urethane, epoxy, and low-temperature melt metal alloys, to name just a few.

Platinum Cure

Platinum cure silicones are also known as addition-cure mold rubbers, and they have the longest life of all our silicone products. Though these materials are at the higher end of the price scale, they are definitely worth it for the added durability. Some platinum cure silicones are even safe for use on skin, making them perfect for creating prosthetic and orthotic devices. Others are deemed food-safe and can be used to create candy or cake molds, among other uses.
